ELTE University – 1st pilot course

ELTE University ran the first pilot course in the autumn of the academic year 2018/2019 at the Faculty of Education and Psychology, with two trainers, György Mészáros and Dorottya Rédai. Fourteen teacher trainee students (ten women and four men) took part in the elective course called “Gender, Sexuality and School”. The course consisted of three 8-hour sessions on 22, 23 and 30 November.

Quotes of participants

“A broader perspective opened up for me through the topics we discussed at the course.”

“I found the course useful, because I think a teacher has to be knowledgeable about everything that is happening to/in society!”

“It was very important to discuss that gender stereotypes are everywhere, within us, too, even though we think they are not. But we can work on this. It was great to share and discuss our own experiences, thoughts and opinions.”

“It was useful because at other courses these topics don’t come up, or if they do, we are only scratching the surface, but at this course we went deep.”

“Primarily I learnt methods that I will apply on myself and my environment, with which I will be improving myself. But I also learnt methods that can be used in class, like the dramatization of situations.”

“The socio-drama methods were my favourite, I will try to use them in class.”

“It was good that the sessions were not 90 minutes but a whole day. So we had time to get attuned and think deeper.”

“I was happy that we could also have a say in the topics and structure of the course.”

“It was super! I loved these three days. I felt like waking up in the morning and going to university. FINALLY. :)”
